Nepal is popular for the high mountains including the highest mountain of the world Mt. Everest (8,848m), only few people they knew Nepal has very high potential to generate hydroelectricity about 85,000 Megawatts, But the problem, Nepal is producing only about 700 megawatts of electricity which is not sufficient to cover all the villages and cities of Nepal. Nepal requires 1200 megawatts to cover all the villages and cities.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, Nepal is producing only 6.77 megawatts each year. That is the reason many villages in Nepal, people they use kerosene for lamps which is very harmful for health, especially for eyes.
Therefore, we have started solar project to help local houses in Damar village situated in the lower Everest region. It is cost effective and easy to install, which has helped local people and students.
On October 2018, Okhaldhunga Nine Hill Association in collaboration with Italian Organization Eco Himal has installed a Solar panel and lights for the Dhikure school hostel.
There are about 17 students residing in the hotel and were facing problem in the study due to no electricity in the hostel. After the successful installation of solar panels, the students can now focus on their studies in the evening.
